Tubing on the Don Diego River

Float down from the mountain to the Caribbean Sea, among howler monkeys and birds.

Duration
3 to 4 hours
Difficulty
Easy
Zone
Don Diego River · Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
Starts at
Don Diego River, 6 km from La Jorará

The Don Diego River is born in the glaciers of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and reaches the Caribbean six kilometres east of La Jorará. Tubing means letting its current carry you on an inner tube, from the rainforest down to the beach.

On the way down you see howler monkeys in the canopy, a wide variety of birds and butterflies and, on clear days, the snow peaks rising above the green. At the river mouth a barely explored virgin beach appears, where fresh water meets salt water and you can swim in both. The return trip is by motorboat.

It is the most requested experience in the portfolio and the easiest: low difficulty, suitable for non-athletes, and enough to understand in one go why this mountain is the highest coastal massif on earth.
